Is the system against the common work-a-day person from achieving a reasonable level of comfort, success and justice for themselves and their families?

The buzz in the coffee shops and taverns is that the system in the world today is against the common person.

The system works to conspire against most of us to become successful and to have adequate access to justice.

The word on the street is that government protects only big corporations and that the only way to get rich is to do it dishonestly.

I would disagree, especially in the United States. I consistently see immigrants that come to this country with no grasp of our language, poor, alone, and sometimes fighting the specter of prejudice. I have seen so many of these people end up enjoying their share of the American dream.

Yes, you have people that do not seem to enjoy the American dream... immigrants and Americans alike. But if you look closely, these unfortunate people do not follow the proper protocols that lead to wealth and prosperity.

It is my experience that the system is indifferent, it does not take any one by the hand to give away wealth and justice; it does however allows practically anyone with the desire, the willingness to work hard and sacrifice a chance to earn great wealth.

     What do you think?

Discipline

In his epoch making book The Road Less Traveled, Scott Peck talked of the importance of discipline. He described four aspects of discipline:

  • Delaying gratification: Sacrificing present comfort for future gains.

  • Acceptance of responsibility: Accepting responsibility for one's own decisions.

  • Dedication to truth: Honesty, both in word and deed.

  • Balancing: Handling conflicting requirements. Scott Peck talks of an important skill to prioritize between different requirements -- bracketing.
