Epilogue
My Current Views On The Necessity Of Military And Sometimes…War
Because many years ago I was in the military and I have since
kept an eye on how our military and our government treats our
current soldiers and Veterans.
Obviously, I
have some very strong views as to how our country should conduct
war - in the rare instances that I believe we may actually need
to address distasteful adversaries.
It is my belief
that it should be a crime to send teenagers off to war. We have
the money for war, then that means we have the money for peace.
We have the money to invest in our people, in our children and
for their education.
If I were King,
I would mandate that all citizens should have an opportunity to
get a college education, in both; the sciences, arts and
humanities. I would mandate that all of our citizens should be
offered free education until the age of twenty-four. Since our
country needs to build a brain trust to compete… or to be more
exact, co-create with the other countries of the world.
If I were King,
I would mandate that after the required education, people should
be required to serve their country by entering into the Peace
Corp, or even the military to learn the art of war. Actually,
perhaps our citizens should be required to take on the duties of
learning the art of war in addition to performing Peace Corp
type of duties here, on the domestic front and abroad.
I would mandate
that each citizen should perform Peace Corp type of duties both
here and abroad, pulling a year and a half or even two years
worth of duty for each.
Perhaps even
spending a total of six years of duty, with the opportunity to
constantly continue to build upon their education and competence
of various skills.
If I were King,
I would mandate that all politicians become the type of citizens
that lead from the front instead of mismanage from the rear.
This includes being involved directly and personally in the art
of war.
For example,
all congressmen and woman, all Senators that vote for war should
also serve on the front lines of the war they vote on.
With the new
technology that we have in the area of multi-media, high-speed,
wireless communication, these leaders could still conduct
business via the internet and other avenues of communication.
Some Politicians would argue that they may be too old or unfit
to serve.
I would argue
that with the new weapons of war they could also take part in
honoring their country by serving in the very wars they vote on
to send our young men and women.
The issue of
age or fitness should not be an issue. For example… even Vice
President Dick Cheney is capable of hiking for a day and
shooting a rifle. He and other politicians could do the same in
a combat situation. They need to demonstrate that they possess
the same physical and mental courage that they require of our
troops. If they lack this level of courage, then they are not
really fit to lead.
We need to
require these high standards, of both ourselves, and our
leaders.
