Juan Talks About How Americans Have More Access To More Potential Freedoms

We were all taken back by Juan’s long lecture. This was the longest anyone ever heard him talk at any given time. He was considered to be educated… but was normally not one to talk that much, at least that openly.

A few people were asking Juan what his point was, or how do we influence our legislators besides hoping to vote a good guy in.

Juan said “In the United States, you Americans have potentially more individual and collective power and resources than ya realized.”

Juan’s assertion was received with more than its share of anger and bitterness.

As much as I liked Juan and as intriguing and educational his lecture was, I felt outraged and offended by his assertion that we even had a chance of influencing the leaders of our country. I asked him how we could do anything that would put pressure on our leaders.

He said, “By educating yourself on the issues and getting together with other people who see eye to eye with you.” “Then by writing your letters, making phone calls or by setting up luncheons with yer group of interested people & the legislators in yer area & also be going to town hall meetings.

Juan was starting to get my members at the gym roused to a fever pitch. Everyone was feeling like he was inferring that just voting was lazy and unpatriotic.

Cliff said, “If we could get rid of one or the other political party then we wouldn’t have gridlock.

Juan said, “In my opinion mate, that would be a mistake.” “What would be better if this country had three or more major parties to choose from.”

This comment got a lot of people chattering.

He said, “Just try ta think of it, every living organism needs ta have several operating systems ta foster each other operating system’s health and efficiency.”

Juan quickly turns his attention towards me, “Vinny…I have heard you say that you have found that with regards to your workouts, that it is best to work every rep range; for example you have found that high reps will help you to lift more weight in the lower rep ranges.

I was not liking that the focus of a conversation regarding the subtleties of subject matter of which I had almost no knowledge about to be thrown in my corner.

I cautiously said, “How can you compare lifting weights to politics?”

Juan sensing my discomfort said, “Every system is similar and follow similar laws.” ”That is why every system or organism needs to be attended to at every level to ensure its health.”
