EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK:
Moonlighting At The Candlelight Lounge
My time at Cherry Point was not all Marine details or
disappointment. I took a job in the evenings off base to work at
a sandwich shop and Italian restaurant. My new job was great. I
loved it! I was taught to prepare food, cook, and I served beer
and flirted with the waitresses and women who came into the bar.
It was such a good time I lamented not getting hooked up for a
second job upon my arrival at Cherry Point.
My fellow
Marines and I had been told having a civilian job was not
permissible while in the military. It was a long time before I
found out you were allowed to work in the civilian sector as
long as the job did not conflict with your duties as a Marine.
A good job in
town made it easier to meet women who were not hookers,
barmaids, or strippers. It also made for a more interesting
life, allowing me to acquire the extra income I needed to live
off of base and be a swinging bachelor. I could now afford
privacy. No more late night jaunts to the head to masturbate for
me, no siree Bob. I now had my own room.
