VINCE'S GYM

Rock and I Force the Sandbaggers to Go All Out

As I have already mentioned, this meet was organized like I never seen a meet before or since. Now it was time for me and Rock to get some quick warm ups to prepare for our squats. We had to list all of our opening attempts. These opening attempts were listed on list that the organizers had in front of them. The lists were available for any lifter to see. Mel and his friends did not know what Rock and I had planned until the MC called us up at the deck. Mel and his friends did their first attempts before us because they were sandbagging. Mel and his friends confronted us and they were very angry to say the least. We both squatted close to 500 hundred pounds. This forced Mel to squat close to 600 pounds.

Next was the bench. The entire meet was very confusing despite the opening attempts that were listed on the sheets that the organizers had at their tables. For some reason Tony wanting to know how much I would bench seemed to interest him more than what Rock was going to bench. Neither Rock nor I was in Tony’s weight class, yet he watched me like a covetous hawk. I got down with my last warm up and in the confusion Tony had already perform his first and second attempt in the competition. Both of his lifts were less than my warm up weights, and he thought that my last warm up weight was my last competition attempt. He seemed very pleased since He felt that his last attempt would beat what he thought was my best bench.

When he asked me what I had just gotten with my last attempt I told him that it was my last warm up and I pushed out 335 pounds. This put him in a state of alarm, because his second attempt had been at 325 which he barely got. He asked me what I would start with. I told him I would start with 350 pounds. Tony freaked out and went into a conference with Mel and friends.

They did the usual snorting of smelling salts along with the slapping and punching of each other. Tony gets down and tries 355 pounds for his third attempt. The weight crushes him. He jumps up screaming and kicking the bench. I go for my first attempt at 350 pounds and I push it up easily. This causes him to kick the bleachers and throw his gear bag across the room. I did a 360 pound bench and then a 375 pound bench with ease.

Tony jumps up knocking down both of the women that had been fawning on him and screams at me,  “Fuck you!!, and runs to the double doors of the gym and slams them both open startling everyone in the gym, and on the way out he screams, “Aahhhh!, Mother fucker!!”

Neo and Rock calmly look at me with raise eyebrows.

Neo says, “I’d say that bloke is a bit wonkers!”

The dead lift went in the same manner as I out performed Tony in all three lifts, I out performed the steroid lifters 220 pounder, and of course Mel did better than me in all three lifts and his 275 pound friend came in first and Rock got second place.

We forced them all to forgo sandbagging and in the future they had to compete in the class one meets, me included. Now people in the class two and under could lift among a few less sandbaggers.

I managed to come in first place in all three lifts for my weight class and I came in second place in the category for best bencher pound for pound with a 2.20 ratio, the guy who came in first place pound for pound got a 2.21.

Mel got a 1.756 for his 425 pound bench in the 242 pound weight class.

Mel and his friends came over to express their anger and their sense of betrayal. They were very careful not to talk too strongly to Rock, because they knew that despite their greater strength Rock had a reputation for being one of the biggest bad-asses in Springfield and they saw what he was capable of on a speed bag and the heavy bag. With Neo, they ignored him, and with me their tone and manner was stronger. I must admit that I was a bit fearful and as they were loudly expressing their rage, my little ole’ sphincter and my conjoined twin with his boys, tighten right up to prepare for a physical assault.

Mel and his friends said, “You just lost eight members buddy!”

They marched right out of the gym.
