EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK:
1956 – The Year of
my Birth
Though I had launched dramatically on to the scene, I have as
yet gone unnoticed by the less important inhabitants of this
planet and other events were of more concern to the smug
self-serving primates who called themselves the children of God.
This
self-importance had a lot of people dwelling on biblical fears
concerning the violence of the Middle East and the Suez Canal
War erupted and problems were thick on the Gaza Strip and after
fifty years The Gaza Strip is still a hot spot.
Although I was
unaware of it at the time, this year a shameful day in American
history occurred when ninety-six U.S. Congressmen signed the
“Southern Manifesto”, to protest the ruling of (Brown vs. Board
of Education) by the U.S. Supreme Court to desegregate public
education.
This was the
year that we invented a more powerful way to destroy ourselves
when the first airborne explosion of the hydrogen bomb nearly
obliterated the Bikini Atoll; this made Dr. Edward Teller very
happy, but it only added to everyone’s fear.
We set in
motion a Cuban cluster fuck that affects us a half-century later
when the CIA supported Fidel Castro and Che Guevara departed
from Tuxpa, Mexico on a yacht named the Granam with over eighty
men, finally landing at Belici, Cuba to start a revolution.
This year my
parents were happy when a local girl makes good – Philadelphia
born actress Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier III of Monaco
The
new music distractions
for this year was Love is a Many Splendid Thing by The
Four Aces, The Yellow Rose of Texas by Mitch Miller,
Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and His Comets,
Autumn Leaves by Roger Williams, Sixteen Tons by
Tennessee Ernie Ford and Elvis Presley released his first Gold
Album titled Elvis Presley.
Some
of the new movies
this year was Mister Roberts with the actor Peter Fonda,
Battle Cry, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,
To Hell and Back, Strategic Air Command, The
Country Girl. The Rose Tatto, and Marty.
Some
of books
that my mom read was The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit, The
Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale, Year
of Decisions by Harry S. Truman.
Some

The Jack Benny Show, Dragnet, with Jack Webb,
The Ed Sullivan Show, Disneyland, Your Bet Your
life, I Love Lucy and The Phil Silvers Show, The Adventures of
