What makes a fully actualized human being and how do we become
such a person?
As I have journeyed through life, it has been apparent that some
people have more depth and breadth to them.
They
seem to be more educated, have many rewarding relationships with
friends, relatives, and lovers. They seem to often have a
connection to the divine.
What makes a complete human? How do we work to achieve such a
feat? How do we best utilize our time and energy to acquire a
top level education, achieve financial security, emotional
maturity and resourcefulness, physical excellence and spiritual
illumination or at least a satisfactory connection with what we
perceive as the divine?
Join me
as I endeavor to achieve the goal of becoming completely Human.
As I
journey on this quest, I will be looking into every method and
manner of resource and training in the realms of the body, mind
and spirit; the physical and the metaphysical; the social and
the political.
It is my dream that as a species we will one day develop the
science of creating fully developed humans.
May that
day come soon.
Some of
the authors and books that come to mind which gives greater
detail and understanding of the mechanisms inside the psyche of
both types of individuals; those who succeed greatly and those
who live lives of painful mediocrity or worse. I highly
recommend three authors: Dr. M.
Scott Peck in his various books, the most notable being The
Road Less Traveled, Dr. Philip Zimbardo with his latest and
greatest work to date,
“The
Lucifer Effect” and finally, Phoenix Michaels in his
ground-breaking book "Who Am I?".

Discipline
In his epoch making book The Road Less
Traveled, Scott Peck talked of the importance of discipline.
He described four aspects of discipline:
-
Delaying gratification: Sacrificing
present comfort for future gains.
-
Acceptance of responsibility:
Accepting responsibility for one's own decisions.
-
Dedication to truth: Honesty, both in
word and deed.
-
Balancing: Handling conflicting
requirements. Scott Peck talks of an important skill to
prioritize between different requirements -- bracketing.
